Social Media Integration: Joining Tribes

Seth Godin recently gave an interesting talk about social media trends for the future. Seth argues that that days of “hypnotizing people into buying via mass media” are over. Instead, he argues that people are redeveloping “belonging groups” which he calls “tribes.” Check out his amazing talk. P.S., if you do not know who Seth is, take a peak at www.squidoo.com!

What Is Social Media Integration?

I work in the healthcare industry. So, I get a lot of opportunity to meet many people, and observe many events. I recently came across a new example that I believe helps one get at the concept of social media integration.

I new class was being offered to nursing staff on how to properly chart on patients. The class was set up for staff having difficulty accuractely charting on patients. It was meant to be helpful. It ended up being enlightening.

Among the people present, all but one was actively making use of some form of text messaging or online microblog. In most cases, these staff members were active “Tweeters.” There’s you sign! We are now doing remedial education for a generation of Twitter users who are use to describing their whole world in 140 characters or less!

One more example: I like to call my daughter often. Just to make sure college is going well, job is okay. I can ring her cell number and go almost directly to voicemail. I can turn around, make handy use of my Vlingo program on my Blackberry, and text her the same message. Almost immediately, I get an answer.

Are you getting the idea? Social media integration is a form of communication that makes use of software and hardware technology in conjunction with typical human forms of communication and social interaction.
It has almost become a sixth sense.

If you are not studying the concept of how we are integrating social media into our methods of speech communication and social interaction, you need to be! If you still have doubts as to the efficacy of this new revolution, go have a discussion with the editor of your local newspaper. Ask them how business is. Ask them about the paper’s market penetration for people under 30 years of age. it is here to stay.

Social Media Integration Revolution

There is a new buzzword in town. It is called social media integration. It is more than just “twittering” , or viewing videos on Youtube. It has become a whole new way the individuals communicate with the world.

Why do you suppose that people like Oprah Winfrey and President Obama have become so interested in social media like Twitter? CNN has even been in a race to become a member of the “Million follower club.” Now these folks have all the marketing money they need. They can get the best marketing minds to work for them. So, why be interested in Twitter? It is because they have begun to grasp the concept of social media integration. If you do not understand it, you need to.

I am starting a discussion group/think tank to discuss the significance of the subject. I would love it if you would join us. To get started CLICK ON THIS LINK. We will get the information on the meeting.
