Netflix iPhone Ap to Debut
A Netflix iphone ap is to debut this summer. So, I am exicted. One of the reasons that I bought my iPhone was for the chance to watch movies while on the road. My success has been limited. Now, there may be new hope for watching a good movie on the iPhone, or even the iPad. (The jury is out on buying an iPad at this point.)
The new ap will still require you to have a Netflix account, but the ap itself will be free. There is currently going to be no way to stream over the WiFi portion of the iPhone. The service will make exclusive use of the phone’s 3G network.
There is some technology that will be in place, however, that would let you move around networks, and still be able to pick your movie back up at the point you left. This is called “adaptive bit technology.” The bottom line: you can take your movie with you anywhere.
The only downside is going to be that AT&T is doing away with the unlimited 3G data plan. That hurts! If you are currently on the plan, you can keep it. But new customers will have to choose between a 200MB and 2G plan. So, watch out if you go over that amount. That will be easy, by the way, with the wide bandwidth required by Netflix movies.
We’ll talk to you later,
Ray Province
